I can’t help but notice that they’re all in pairs. That’s because you hung them on the line and didn’t put them in the dryer. The “sock brownie” hunts in the dryer, you see, and steals only one sock for his collection. Most of the houses I know, including mine, are preyed upon by the sock brownie, so hanging socks to dry is a pretty cunning approach. Good thinking.
Yes, sock gremlins live in the dryer, not the washer. My mother never had a dryer when I was a kid, and we never lost single socks. That’s scientific proof, right there.
