  1. Just starting my lovely Christmas cordials, if you do that sort of thing.
    Blackberry Cordial: 1 Pound blackberries, washed, stemmed, and lightly crunched up. 2 cups vodka, 2 cups simple syrup. (I c sugar dissolved in 2 cups water). Put it all into a large glass jar with a tight fitting lid, shake well. Place in dark dry corner somewhere, and shake once a week for 6 weeks. Strain into a nice bottle, and cork. Leave to stand in dark until the Christmas season. You can use this recipe for strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries–or all together. There’s another one I use for Cherry Cordial which tastes like cherries in heaven would taste. If you’re interested, I’ll send it, but you’d have to start on it soon. 🙂

    Is the Pope catholic? By which I mean to say, of course I’m interested. Might not make it this year (cherry season is pretty much over here – everything is two to three weeks early this year), but there’s always next. And the blackberry cordial sounds sooo good… I’ve made it with raspberries before, but it ended up with kind of a thick murky sediment. Great taste, not so amazing looks.
    Okay, back to stirring the salsa!

    • Lol. What was I thinking? 😉

      1 pound pitted and stemmed cherries, lightly smooshed up, in a glass jar.
      Add 3 cups vodka.
      1 1/2 c sugar + 1/2 cup water to make a heavy simple syrup. Wait til it’s cooled before adding.
      Lid tightly and shake until it’s all combined evenly.
      Put it in the dark somewhere. Strain into a nice bottle and cork after about 8-10 weeks. Leave for another few weeks. It’ll be ready for Christmas.

      Heck, if all you need is 2 cups of pitted cherries for this recipe, it’s so worth buying them for this beautiful liqueur. It’s a deep ruby color, and it’s absolutely delish! Also, if you add it to sparkling water it’s a kinda fancy not too strong Christmas morning “drinkie-poo” because, as you already well know, it’s always 5:00 pm on Christmas Day. 🙂
